This pure gold collectable coin highlights Samuel de Champlain (1567-1635), renowned French explorer, navigator, cartographer, and administrator. Champlain's work included mapping the "New World" and finding a western route to the "Orient". In 1608, he built a habitation that eventually became Québec City. He continued to deepen trading relations with Indigenous peoples but his quest for new territory was slowed by demands for permanent settlement and by his growing role as Lieutenant General of New France. Champlain oversaw the growth of New France until his death in 1635.
