Throughout June and July, much of Alberta is awash with the delicate pink of the wild rose (Rosa acicularis), brought to life in fine detail on this pure gold collectable coin. Also known as the prickly rose, the buds of this small shrub appear individually or in clusters of two or three. Their petals fade from vibrant pink to white as the flowers mature to set their fruit by autumn. These "hips" are a favourite meal for the white-tailed deer and snowshoe deer.
