The wood duck (Aix sponsa) is considered by some to be the most beautiful waterfowl in North America. This fine silver collectable coin features a pair of wood ducks in full colour. The male wood duck's plumage is vividly coloured with distinct markings, and the female can be identified by her indigo and aubergine wing feathers and distinctive white eye markings. Found throughout southern Canada in the warm summer months, this unique midsized bird is one of only a few North American duck species to nest in tree cavities.
