2015 marked the 100th anniversary of the timeless poem, In Flanders Fields, which was written by Canadian military doctor Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae amid the horrors of the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915. This fine silver collectable coin with colour honours this historical poem and the spirit in which it was written. Through his hauntingly poignant poem, McCrae succeeded in giving a voice to the 60,000 Canadians who ultimately lost their lives in the First World War, and ignited an international effort to keep their legacy alive.
