Fit for a king and queen, the 2850, a Hudson-type 4-6-4 (four leading wheels, six driving wheels and four trailing wheels) locomotive was built by Canadian Pacific in 1938. It featured a distinctive semi-streamline design which is brought to life in this fine silver collectable coin. The locomotive's name, the Royal Hudson, is engraved on the edge of the coin.
During their 1939 royal visit, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth travelled from Quebec City to Vancouver aboard the 2850. To mark the occasion, the engine was fitted with a stainless steel boiler jacket, painted silver and royal blue, and was embellished with royal crests on the front and tender sides and royal crowns on the side running boards.
All collectable coins have been previously owned. Conditions will vary.
