Through her weekly columns, journalist Kathleen "Kit" Blake Coleman (1856-1915) pushed the boundaries of expectation for women in journalism during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This pure gold coin honours this historic woman and her accomplishments. Kit was a woman of many firsts: she made history 125 years ago by becoming North America’s first accredited woman war correspondent; she helped establish the Canadian Women’s Press Club and served as its first president; and later, she became the first syndicated woman columnist in Canada.
