This 14 karat gold collectable coin celebtrates the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Hudson's Bay by Henry Hudson in 1610. After three failed attempts to find the northwest passage to Asia, Hudson sailed for Iceland in 1610. From there, he crossed Davis Strait into the treacherous waters of modern-day Hudson Strait. Hudson believed he had reached the Pacific Ocean, but he was mistaken. Instead he was in a vast inland bay that looked deceptively like the open sea. This discovery of Hudson's Bay proved to be of immeasurable value to England’s expanding fur trade.
