The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are iconic in Canada, mounted on horse back dressed in the red surge uniform. This 1/25 ounce pure gold collectable coin brings an RCMP officer and their mount to life. The RCMP was founded in 1873, and had a force consisting of two hundred and seventy-five police officers dispatched to patrol the western frontier. Recruits were required to know how to ride, but little attention was given to the finer points of military riding. In 1920, the Force became known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Today, it is a world-renowned organization with more than 28,000 members.
