This pure gold one kilogram ultra high relief collectable coin recognizes the influence of Indigenous athletes playing the powerful sport of baggataway, now known as lacrosse, on European settlers over 375 years ago. The name was changed to lacrosse because a French missionary observed that the playing stick resembled a bishop’s croisier. For Indigenous people, lacrosse was a training ground for young warriors and was a non-warring means to settle tribal disputes. Players were determined to bring honour and glory to their teammates and to their tribes.
